Six pics this time... I just couldn't cut it down any further. Rather ickygrosscool still, but gorgeous at the end at least! Apologies for the scratches, the process happened in a cheap plastic aquarium.
After the caterpillar-to-chrysalis adventure, I brought chrysalis #1 out where I could keep a close eye on it. Less than an hour later, it suddenly split open!
The distended lower abdomen is full of fluid that will be pumped into the wings.

It's a boy! As indicated by the spots on the lower wings, apparently. Released him in (of course) our butterfly garden.
