This is, amazingly enough, a living tree, despite storm and lightning damage. I just think it's gorgeous.



Milkweed pod... seed for next year's monarch food.



I'm always surprised to see how much green there is in the woods, even when winter is coming fast.



The herons that summered here left weeks ago, but now the ones from further north are passing through. If I'm lucky, one or two will stay here except when the pond freezes (they can stay the entire winter as close as South Bend, most years).



This assortment of mallards and the heron made me smile.
