Walk and pics
Dec. 3rd, 2004 08:40 pmWe had a bit of a break in the weather today-- temps in the upper 40s, and the first sunshine we've seen in a long time. Though I have lots of things that need doing, there wasn't anything urgent, and I had a block of more than 4 hours when I didn't have to be anyplace in particular. I found myself dithering about whether to try to take a longer walk than usual, or just go to the park. Finally I mentally slapped myself, and when I dropped the kidlet off at work, I headed for the nearest place where I could take a long hike-- Warren Dunes State Park. I managed 4.5 miles, including hiking across the dunes-- sand is tough climbing! So I'm really pleased. And I got a few decent pics, too, though I didn't see much wildlife. At one point I saw fox tracks, clear and sharp, in dry sand on a breezy day-- they couldn't have been more than a few minutes old.
Natural totem pole?
Here's a view from near the high point of my climb. Afterwards I followed that trail down below to the lake.
The lines on the beach are tiny iron pellets deposited by the waves. You can drag a magnet and pick them up.
I was trying to get a picture of the masses of seagulls gathered along the water line, but I got just a bit too close for their comfort.
