Frozen flood
Jan. 27th, 2005 01:07 pmI couldn't resist walking outdoors today, even though it was about 12 F. After two days closed to the public because of flooding, my park was open today. The ice is still pretty impressive!
This field is about 200 yards from the river, and is still flooded about 6 inches deep-- looks like it was nearer a foot deep while the park was closed.

In the absence of NHL hockey, I propose a new sport: Skateball.

The river is still open at the park, though it's nearly iced over just a mile upriver. Ice jams upriver have been causing some severe flooding, so I'm glad to see free-flowing water here.

The creek through the swamp at one end of the park must be iced over; water is flowing onto the back road of the park instead of into the river. I spotted these lovely crystals growing on moss and grass at the edge of the open water there.
