Graveyard pics
Feb. 6th, 2005 08:00 pmI walked in a new area last Thursday. From one intersection, there are five graveyards within sight-- a municipal cemetery and its newer expansion, two Catholic cemeteries and a Jewish cemetery. I walked through two of them, and am looking forward to returning and exploring the others. Lots of pics.. here are five, more or less randomly picked.
No clue how old the cannon is, or what it commemorates; any plaque is covered with snow right now.

Okay, so I'm fixated on gravestone angels.

The most unusual monument I saw. (There's a single smaller disc in one of the other graveyards.)

Memorial to a local tragedy. (Camera is straight, monument leans.)

The largest of the cemeteries is both surrounded and divided by ravines, so I get to walk across a bridge (I love bridges). I'm very intrigued by the buildings, vaults and niches built into the ravine walls.
