My plan today was to prep dinner, then head for one of the nature preserves for an extra long walk. However, the weather forecase was for Very Strong Storms. At lunchtime it was only slightly cloudy, but I decided to take a shorter walk early, and prep dinner after. I'm glad I did; by the end of the walk the sky was periwinkle blue rather than baby blue, and I could hear rumbling from the west. And I saw a deer and my first green heron of the year, so I don't feel cheated!

The low-growing wildflowers are fading now, and the shrubs are blooming. My whole park smells spicy-sweet from honeysuckle. It ranges from snow white to yellow to pink; I've never seen it as dark pink as this. I may go back for a cutting from this bush.

A red oak sapling just unfurling its leaves.

The blackbirds were being highly territorial again.

I suspect that what this female redwing is 'saying' is something like "Ow!" Or maybe "help?"
