Critters!

Another out-of-focus lifebird--a rose-breasted grosbeak. I've seen them before but only at feeders. The poor things love thistle seed, but can't eat out of a finch feeder because of their beaks, so I always put thistle in a regular feeder for them.

(The pic is something of a consolation prize. I had just glimpsed a wild turkey deep in the woods, but was totally unable to get a picture of it; suddenly two grosbeaks flew right in front of me, and one landed close by. I still want a pic of a turkey.....)

 

This half-grown squirrel couldn't quite figure out what to do about me-- the tree it was on was too small and too close to the path for real shelter, but it was afraid to turn and run on the ground. It played peek-a-boo with me for several minutes before finally scampering to a larger tree. Too cute!
