In order to move a horse from place to place, you have to prove that it's not carrying Equine Infectious Anemia. Horses are tested annually for this disease; the test is a Coggins test, and the resulting paperwork is just called the horse's "Coggins." The testing is generally done during the spring worming, before the spring show season.
Every year when it's time for the kidlet's first show, we have to find Whisper's Coggins. One year we'll tear up the house looking for it, only to discover that the stable manager got them all from the vet and filed them; the next year, we'll blithely assume that the stable manager has them, only to discover that she sent them home. This is one of the latter years. I was at church, trying desperately to prepare for the funeral tomorrow, when I got the frantic phone call from the kidlet. I closed up, raced home, found the paper (which was actually properly filed in the "show folder" that the kidlet should have taken with her anyway) and phoned her back.
Just to add insult to injury, she's now found out that she doesn't have to show the paper until tomorrow (which is really stupid since many of the horses will be stabled together overnight).
Grrrrrrrr.
I'm going to have a nice lunch at home (local corn, yay!) before going back to the church.
