More on the "Cat Who..." books

kayreIn the past month I've read the two latest "Cat Who.." books by Lilian Jackson Braun. The Cat Who Could Read Backwards seemed better than some of her recent work, but there's a very jarring event in the last chapter, totally unrelated to the plot, and we never get Qwill's reaction to it.
I've just read the next book, The Cat Who Had 60 Whiskers. I was surprised that it began without any mention of that jarring event, and indeed there's never any reference to it. And then it happens again-- another very jarring event. This time we get Qwill's one-sentence response to it, but it's understated to say the least. And it's a crime which is left unsolved, this time.
I think possibly I know where Braun might be going with these developments, but they are still very very odd.
