A request from a friend...

More than a few of y'all are math geeks-- can you help my friend? Answer here, she'll get it (and I'll get lots of comments!).
Can you send me web pages, book recommendations, etc., that show how high school algebra relates to the larger "real" world and/or how algebra and geometry can be fun? I'm talking about whiz-bang kind of stuff here; the idea is to get someone excited about learning the material. It's been so very long since I've done this that while I remember the concepts I can't actually do much of it anymore -- for example, last night I incorrectly factored x^2+x+1 as (x+1)^2 and didn't realize my mistake until several hours later. Stuff like fractals/chaos, matrix algebra, population studies and the like will also be welcome.
Thanks!
