It'll be a while before I stop being excited about pileated woodpecker sightings. I actually took these pics from inside my house!
Check out that wing! They're very striking in flight.
I was surprised to see a northern flicker-- also somewhat uncommon here-- closely following the pileated, foraging in the bark the big guy tore up.
